Description
Maritime Memory is a slow pop song, in fitting with the atmosphere of thecredits sequence in which it plays. The song is a more relaxed, hip-hop-influenced cover ofCity of Color, withCallie andMarie singing the same melody along to a new backing track and slightly different lyrics. The main verses and chorus ofCity of Color remain mostly the same, with the first verse, bridge and outro quoting the melody toSplattack! in the instrumental. Approximately halfway through the song, the track breaks down into a half-time arrangement of theCalamari Inkantation with an older man rapping over it, and he continues as theSquid Sisters sing along with him. Finally, the chorus ofCity of Color returns, changing up a key before the song ends. The song plays in the credits sequence ofOcto Valley, and it can also be played inSquid Beatz if the player has completed Octo Valley. Using either theCallie or Marie amiibo also allows the player to watch the Squid Sisters perform the song inInkopolis Plaza. InSplatoon 3,Maritime Memory plays in Inkopolis Plaza during the two-hour period between aSplatfest ending and the results for the Splatfest being announced, starting inDrizzle Season 2023 with theShiver vs. Frye vs. Big Man Splatfest. It also plays as the default song in thelobby in Inkopolis Plaza for 24 hours after a Splatfest ends. It is replaced byDaybreaker Anthem inSplatsville andInto the Light inInkopolis Square.Maritime Memory can also be played in thejukebox if the player has downloaded theSplatoon 3: Expansion Pass.
According to the booklet contained inSplatune, the song can only be sung at the age of seventeen, the fragile period of time between a girl and a woman. The booklet also reveals that the rap portion of the song was performed by an old man who stumbled into the recording session, saying "though my clothes may be tattered, my heart is pure and my charming voice will never fade away." The staff hurried him out but realized that they liked his addition to the song and kept it. It is heavily implied that this old man isCap'n Cuttlefish; in addition to the old man's description and voice matching Cap'n Cuttlefish, his quote is extremely similar to a self-written description of Cuttlefish fromSquid Research Lab,[1][2] and theOctotune booklet contains a report from Cuttlefish in which he mentions that he once rapped in a song for the Squid Sisters.
Lyrics
The booklet included withSplatoon Live in Makuhari -Shiokalive- gives the official lyrics forMaritime Memory. The lyrics are nonsensical; the Japanesehiragana simply gives the pronunciation.

Other versions
Maritime Memory (Live)
Duringlive Squid Sisters concerts, an extended version ofMaritime Memory is used. Although each performance is different due to the live bands, they retain the same strong structure. When theCalamari Inkantation section is due to play, it instead plays with no vocals or melody, and the second half of the main song's verse and chorus are repeated before continuing as normal. After this section, the outro is played before the final chorus, while the actual outro itself is extended slightly. Two recordings of this version from their first and second live concerts can be found inSplatoon Live in Makuhari -Shiokalive-.
Maritime Memory (Grand Festival)
From00:00 UTC until02:00 UTC on16 September 2024, after thePast vs. Present vs. Future Splatfest, an extended live band version ofMaritime Memory was played. This version is based on the live version played at concerts, particularly the performance featured in theShiokalive 2016 concert. Revisiting theGrand Festival Grounds and selecting the "That Tranquil Dawn" option will allow the song to be replayed, along withDaybreaker Anthem andInto the Light.
