Kitamura's head resembles the entire body of a sea urchin, while the rest of her body is largely obscured by a black dress with a gold tie, matching the other members ofInk Theory. While her arms are not visible in the album art, official art made for Valentine's Day reveals she has small hands resembling an urchin's tube feet. Her only visible facial feature is her eyes, which have white pupils and white outlines with short eyelashes. She wears pink ribbons, though in the Valentine's Day artwork she instead wears black ribbons with gray polka dots.
Splatoon 3
InSplatoon 3, Kitamura is given a new outfit, wearing a long black dress with metal spikes at the end, with a frilly white translucent shawl over top of it. Her ribbons have been swapped for an ornate green flower with purple leaves, as well as a group of what appear to be lime green beads (possibly inspired by the "sea grape" algae speciesCaulerpa lentillifera orCaulerpa racemosa) underneath.
Personality and traits
Kitamura acts asInk Theory's mascot. She has a high singing voice and regularly follows new fads. She lives alone but pays close attention to her curfew.[1] She carries by far the most luggage of anyone inYoko & the Gold Bazookas while on tour. As ofSplatoon 3, many children have been born into her family, and she finds it soothing to look at photos of the larval sea urchins.[2]
LikeMurasaki and unlike in-game sea urchinsSpyke andMurch, Kitamura's face does not appear to be distinguished from the spiny part of her head.
An urchin wearing a bow resembling Kitamura can be seen in the crowd ofPearl's gig in thephoto inMarina's chat room. Whether this is Kitamura or a similar-looking character is unknown.
Although Kitamura does not have a visible mouth, a signature on the side ofHotlantis belonging to her depicts her with one.
Etymology
Kitamura's name comes from "キタムラサキウニ"kitamurasakiuni, the Japanese name forMesocentrotus nudus, a species of sea urchin. Despite this, her actual species isDiadema setosum.
