Hello Kitty vs. Cinnamoroll was the first round in a three-round tournament. The theme of the tournament was fourSanrio characters: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, and Pompompurin. The winner of this round, Hello Kitty, went on to face off against thesecond round's winner in thefinal round.

In promotional art, characters were equipped with gear from theSplatoon universe. Hello Kitty has theSplat Dualies,King Flip Mesh, andWhite King Tank. Cinnamoroll has theLuna Blaster,Studio Headphones, andNavy Deca Logo Tee.
