Main article:Emote/Fist bump animations

Starting with Sizzle Season 2023[1] , winning players may fist bump each other at the end of a match's results screen if they fulfill certain requirements.

In order to fist bump, two players on the winning team must be positioned beside each other on the results screen, have compatible emotes equipped, and have each been awarded threegold medals.[2] Only two players per team may fist bump. Any fist bumps achieved are not visible to players on the losing team.

Emote fist bump compatibility

Each emote is classed according to its height as upper, middle or lower. In order to fist bump, both eligible players must have compatible emotes equipped; a player equipped with a middle-height emote cannot fist bump a player equipped with an upper-height emote.

Trivia

  • Flip Out, Reppin' Inkopolis and The Square Show-Off are the only emotes so far that feature the player's weapon and vary based on its class.
  • Reppin' Inkopolis and The Square Show-Off emotes are directly based on victory poses fromSplatoon andSplatoon 2, respectively. They appear to have been completely remade instead of being imported from those games.
    • The Reppin' Inkopolis in particular are mostly based on Inkling girls' victory poses with some elements from those of the boys.
  • Prior to7.0.0, the Reppin' Inkopolis emote lacked animations for weapon types added afterSplatoon (dualies, brellas, stringers, andsplatanas) and simply reused the animations from the Flip Out emote instead.
  • One of the animations for Inklings and Octolings inSplatsville Square is very similar to the No Chill emote. The biggest difference is in the square, they open their mouth in a sigh, while in the No Chill emote their mouth is closed throughout.
  • Using supportedSplatoon seriesamiibo, players can perform The Lowdown, No Chill, Victory Strut, Double-Cross Dab, Card Shark, and, as ofversion 2.0.0, the Wave 'Em Off and Flip Out emotes by using the "Pose" selection when taking a picture with the amiibo, allowing the player to perform select emotes from previous seasons regardless of whether it is owned.
    • The Wave 'Em Off emote can only be used in the Splatsville Square, while the Flip Out emote can only be used in multiplayerstages.
  • The special emotes from the 100x and 333x battles animation originate from the poses in theMission Complete! screen ofAlterna.

Translation notes

  1. Revierdecks means "Turf Decks", which is the German name for Tableturf Battle.
  2. The suffix-ito is used to describe a noun that is small. In this case,-ito is added to the wordbajo meaning "low".
  3. The word креведkreved comes from a Russian meme phrase Превед, медвед, йа криветко! which is a very corrupted and ungrammatical way of saying "Hello, bear, I'm shrimp!". In this case, the word кревед is a fusion of the words преведpreved ("hello") and креветкаkrevetka ("shrimp").
  4. Calm Before the Storm is a reference to the idiom when little activity turns into chaos.
  5. Used to provoke someone. Can mean the likes of"you got something to say?" "you want a piece of me?" "you got a problem with that?"
  6. From the expressioneen gat in de lucht slaan ("to do a foolhardy act") oreen gat in de lucht springen ("to be uninhibitedly enthusiastic").
  7. Onda is Italian for "wave".
  8. The suffixito is used to describe a noun that is small. In this case, they added-ito to the wordbaile meaning dance.
  9. Verdraaid is a Dutch interjection of amazement and irritation, and the past participle ofverdraaien ("to twist").
  10. Перстperst is an archaic word for палецpalets ("finger").
  11. An expression; literally it means "hit of the mill".
  12. The suffix-azo is used to describe a noun that is great. In this case,-azo is added to the wordmolina meaning "mill".
  13. Surimi Syndicate is the German name for Deep Cut.
  14. Flösschen is a diminutive ofFlosse ("fin").
  15. Физкультfizkul't is short for физкультураfizkul'tura ("physical culture"), and физкульт-привет is a traditional way to greet people in a sports environment in Russia.
  16. Fromspelenderwijs ("playfully, through play") andstapsgewijs ("stepwise").
  17. The nounmollusco ("mollusc") is treated like a verb in its participle form.
  18. From Off the Hook's catchphrase in Dutch, hou je cool, hou je TENTACOOL!
  19. A pun with "Tentacool", Off the Hook's French name, andClasse ("classy, cool").
  20. Reference to "Tentacool", Off the Hook's Italian name.
  21. Pun onzus ("sister"); literally: "sister and so".
  22. Most likely a mistake, as the Squid Sisters' Canadian French name is "Sœurs Ventouse" and Off the Hook's is "Tentacool". The European French name for the Bait the Hook emote uses Off the Hook's name as intended.
  23. "Sea Sirens" is the Squid Sisters' Italian name.
  24. Кулачкиkulachki ("small fists") can also mean "fistbumps".
  25. It is the same name given asBurst Bomb in Dutch.
