TheDynamo Roller is amain weapon in theSplatoon series, manufactured byAmmo Knights. It is a heavyweightroller with increased power and range, at the cost of slowness and high ink consumption.

Description

The Dynamo Roller can cover turf while in motion and can fling a large amount ofink at medium range. Compared to theSplat Roller, this roller is much slower but covers a larger area while rolling and throwing ink. It has the greatest range of all theroller class weapons, but sacrifices speed; it rolls slowly when pushed, and it takes over a second to fling ink. The slow ink-flinging windup animation leaves the player vulnerable when attacking, as no other actions may be performed while preparing the fling, and it is not possible to cancel a fling once initiated. The Dynamo Roller'smobility is low, so speed is impaired when it is equipped, even when not attacking with the weapon.

Appearance

The Dynamo Roller has a metal handle that is a light bronze color inSplatoon or duller bronze inSplatoon 2 and black. The middle of the handle is shaped a bit like a vase and has two short, straight tubes running in front of and behind it. These tubes change color to match the user'sink. The roller part, like allrollers', changes color to match the user's ink. When out of ink, it displays a polka dot pattern. On both sides of the roller are silver-colored metal attachments that connect to each other via a bronze-colored stick of metal. The left attachment connects the roller to the handle.

Data

  • The Dynamo Roller is aheavyweight weapon.
  • Ink consumption while rolling is 6% per second.
  • Ink consumption per attack is 20%.
    • This allows players to attack 5 times before needing to refill the ink supply.
    • This stat can be changed with Ink Saver (Main).
  • The weapon can attack with a depleted ink tank, but the damage of that attack is reduced to 40% of the normal amount.
  • Rolling with a depleted ink tank will not leave a trail or damage opponents.
  • When attacking, it takes 45 frames to lift the roller (0.75 seconds).
  • When rolling, the player's movement speed is set to 0.96 units per frame.
  • When rolling on an uninkable surface or with a depleted ink tank, the player's movement speed is set to 0.96 units per frame.
  • After rolling, there is a 0.33 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • After swinging, there is a 1.33 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
  • Hitting an opponent while rolling deals 160 damage.
  • Attacks have a base damage of 125.
  • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 110 units and stops losing damage at 170 units. The minimum damage is 25.
  • Ink globs travel straight for 6 frames.
  • Ink flung from the center of the roller does the greatest damage. Ink that flies to the left or right will have lower damage. This low-damage ink starts losing damage after traveling a distance of 155 units and stops losing damage at 170 units. The maximum damage is 50 and the minimum damage is 25.
  • When rolling, the Dynamo Roller leaves an ink trail that is 60 units wide.

Sheldon's Introduction

TheDynamo Roller is a roller I designed myself upon using my granddad's blueprints! It wound up with incredible power, but the dynamo motor does weigh it down a bit... oh, well. Anyway, ink turf with theSprinkler and track enemies with theEcholocator, and you'll be winning in no time!(NA)

Using the blueprints as a starting point, Sheldon has rigged up a motor to theroller base. Cumbersome to use, but delivers a powerful burst of ink when swung.

The Dynamo Roller returns inSplatoon 2, with minor appearance changes but significant performance changes. It comes withInk Mines andSting Ray. Jumping before flinging ink performs a long-ranged vertical swing. The vertical swing paints a long path of ink and damages distant opponents. If it hits, the vertical fling can splat aSteelhead in only one shot.

It appears in twoOcto Expansion stations:

    Data

    • The Dynamo Roller is aheavyweight weapon.
    • The matchmaking range is 185. The game's matchmaking system looks at a team's average matchmaking range value, and matches them against a team with a similar average.
    • Ink consumption per second while rolling scales from 1.2% to 6% depending on the rolling speed.
    • When rolling, the player's movement speed is set to 0.88 units per frame.
    • After rolling for 1.5 seconds, the player begins to dash.
    • When dashing, the player's movement speed is set to 1.08 units per frame.
    • After rolling, there is a 0.33 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • Hitting an opponent while rolling deals 125 damage.Main Power Up increases rolling contact damage up to 143.75.
    • When rolling, the Dynamo Roller leaves an ink trail that is 68 units wide.

    Horizontal swing (while grounded)

    • The ink consumption of 18% allows players to attack 5 times before needing to refill the ink supply.
      • This stat can be changed with Ink Saver (Main).
    • When attacking with a nearly depleted ink tank, the ink consumption of that attack is reduced to 9%. The damage of that attack is reduced to 25% of the normal amount.
    • When attacking, it takes 45 frames to lift the roller (0.75 seconds).
    • When attacking while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.24 units per frame.
    • After swinging, there is a 1.08 second cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • Attacks have a base damage of 180.Main Power Up increases damage up to 207.
    • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 80 units and stops losing damage at 182 units. The minimum damage is 40. Main Power Up increases minimum damage up to 46.
    • The lethal range is 110 units, as this is the farthest distance where ink deals 100 damage.
    • In situations where ink falls down, the ink will lose damage as it falls. The minimum damage for falling ink is 20.
    • Ink flung from the center of the roller does the greatest damage. Ink that is flung at an angle greater than 12 degrees to the left or right will have lower damage. This low-damage ink starts losing damage after traveling a distance of 10 units and stops losing damage at 130 units. The maximum damage is 120 and the minimum damage is 40. Main Power Up increases maximum damage up to 138 and increases minimum damage up to 46.

TheDynamo Roller is a roller I designed myself using a power generator for high strength and long range! The motor does weigh it down a smidge, but theInk Mines wait until someone gets too close before splashing ink everywhere! And theSting Ray can take down enemies from a comfortable distance! The set appeals to those too stubborn to give up inked turf.

    • While rolling, the Dynamo Roller leaves an ink trail that is 6.8 units wide.

    Horizontal swing (while grounded)

    • The ink consumption of 21% allows players to attack 4 times before needing to refill the ink supply.
    • When attacking with a nearly depleted ink tank, the ink consumption of that attack is reduced to 10.5%. The damage of that attack is reduced to 25% of the normal amount, and the speed in which the globs of ink move is reduced to 50% of the normal amount, effectively reducing its range.
    • When attacking, it takes 45 frames to lift the roller (0.75 seconds).
    • When attacking while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.024 units per frame.
    • After swinging, there is a 55 frame cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • Attacks have a base damage of 180.
    • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 7.2 units and stops losing damage at 17.4 units. The minimum damage before time-based falloff is applied is 40.
    • The lethal range is 12.9 units, as this is the farthest distance where ink deals 100 damage.
    • If a glob of ink is in the air for more than 30 frames after being flung, it loses damage each frame until frame 55, at which point it will deal 50% of its original damage. Thus, the minimum damage that can be dealt per glob is 20.
    • Ink flung from the center of the roller does the greatest damage. Ink that is flung at an angle greater than 14.5 degrees to the left or right will have lower damage. This low-damage ink starts losing damage after traveling a distance of 0.2 units and stops losing damage at 12.2 units. The maximum damage is 120 and the minimum damage is 40.

    • When attacking with a nearly depleted ink tank, the ink consumption of that attack is reduced to 10.5%. The damage of that attack is reduced to 25% of the normal amount, and the speed in which the globs of ink move is reduced to 70% of the normal amount, effectively reducing its range.
    • When attacking, it takes 55 frames to lift the roller (0.92 seconds).
    • When attacking while moving, the player's movement speed is set to 0.024 units per frame.
    • After swinging, there is a 70 frame cooldown before the ink tank starts refilling.
    • Attacks have a base damage of 180.
    • For normal attacks, ink loses damage based on distance traveled. Ink starts losing damage at 8.2 units and stops losing damage at 20.6 units. The minimum damage before time-based falloff is applied is 40.
    • The lethal range is 14.0 units, as this is the farthest distance where ink deals 100 damage.
    • If a glob of ink is in the air for more than 40 frames after being flung, it loses damage each frame until frame 65, at which point it will deal 50% of its original damage. Thus, the minimum damage that can be dealt per glob is 20.
    • Damage does not change based on the angle of the ink.

    Sheldon's Introduction

TheDynamo Roller is aroller I designed myself using a power generator for high strength and long range! Now, I wasn't able to reduce the weight on the motor as much as I would have liked, but this thing can REALLY spill someink, if I do say so myself. Pair it with theSprinklersub, and you can push forward to apply max pressure to the other team. And what will your team be doing, you ask? Why, relaxing and enjoying sweet, sugary sips from yourTacticooler, of course. You'll be the most popular teammate around!

For the advanced user, behold theDynamo Roller! This heavyweightweapon swings more slowly than other rollers but offers more inkpower. Horizontal and vertical swings practically blanket the area with ink, making it a truly formidable flinger! And roller. It's still a roller.
