Appearance
The Controller VM is a replica of the headgear worn byMarina when mind-controlled by theOverlorder asMarina Agitando. It consists of a pair of dark gray headphones attached to a visor-like device that resembles a virtual reality headset. The ears of the headphones are formed from opposite halves of aVirtual Boy controller, though with the A and B Buttons colored white instead of red in keeping with the "colorless" theme ofSide Order. Two long pegs designed after the Virtual Boy's stand extend from either ear.

The Controller VM comes withInk Resistance Up as the primaryability. As a 2-star item, the Controller VM comes with three additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased withSuper Sea Snails for 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Sinceit is made by theCuttlegeargear brand, it has equal chances to roll any secondary ability.
Etymology
"Controller" refers both to how the equipment was used to mind-control Marina, and how the device itself is two halves of a Virtual Boy controller. "VM" very likely stands for "Virtual Marina", and could also refer to avirtual machine, which is a virtual computer system that runs within a host computer.
