Chargers are one of themain weapon classes in theSplatoon series.

As their name suggests, chargers are capable of building up power to fire high-velocity, high-power straight lines of ink and as such, they fill the archetype of asniper rifle-style weapon class.

General mechanics

Chargers are generally mid- to long-range weapons with high ink consumption. They have the ability to charge up their shots in order to increase their range and damage, and the majority of chargers are lethal at full charge. Some chargers are additionally equipped with a scope; this causes the camera to change to a first-person perspective and zoom in when charging, allowing for greater clarity at a distance but with a reduced field of vision.

Starting inSplatoon 2, most chargers received the ability to store a charge, allowing them to hold while swimming to retain a charge for a brief time. Additionally, inSplatoon 2, most chargers received the ability to pierce opponents with fully charged shots.

  • The Square Show-Off: The player fist pumps with their left arm and kicks their left foot out while holding their Charger in the right hand before flip tossing their charger into the air and catching it while turning their body to the right and turning their head to the left.

In Ammo Knights (Clicking):

  • Inklings: The player will look down at their weapon and turn it slightly towards them before crouching down and looking down the sights, swinging the weapon to their left and testing the weight before looking down the sights once more and returning to the idle pose.
  • Octolings: The player will look their weapon over from the side and test the weight, jumping and looking down the sights, then swing the weapon to their left and look it over once more.

Judd's Advice
Meow! (Chargers deal a clawful lot ofdamage with each shot! But even so... if you only focus on one-shotting foes, you're gonna have a bad time. Try using your first shot to cut off an opponent's path with yourink... and then you can take them out more easily with the second! Inking theground like this will help your team too, so get shooting!)

Squid Research Lab back with a report on "charger"weapons. We've been saving this one for a while and building up power. And that's exactly how these weapons work! Press and holdZR patiently for a powerful shot that can hit faraway targets.

"Charger" weapons build up power for a super-charged shot that can hit faraway targets. The straight line of ink they leave on the ground can also serve as a speedy pathway into enemy territory!

Trivia

  • Players close one eye when aiming with a charger.
    • However, if they are moving while aiming, both of their eyes remain open.
  • Unlike in the originalSalmon Run, the scoped variants of chargers are not available to use inSalmon Run Next Wave.
  • While most weapons have data in their models that indicates where their projectiles should spawn from, the charger class is the only weapon class whose actual range values are affected by their model data.
    • For all other classes, this model data only changes the visual appearance of the shot, and the actual physics and trajectory are not impacted.
    • Due to these weapons' projectile spawn positions being impacted by data besides their stats, a charger's effective range value is slightly impacted by its visual design.
