Challenge is aneventmode which was added withversion 4.0.0 and introduced inSizzle Season 2023, serving as a replacement forSplatoon 2'sLeague Battle.[1]

Description

Challenges are limited-time competitions ofRegular Battle andAnarchy Battle modes with unique in-match conditions. They can be played solo or with a team, and feature two-hour ranked play windows similar to League Battle, but unlike League Battle's constant rotations, the windows only occur at a few specific times during aseason. Winning five games in a Challenge awards the player with aShell-Out Token.The monthly event battles that appeared inSplatoon 2's League Battle returned asMonthly Challenges. Just like Anarchy Battles, Challenges unlock when a player reachesLevel 10.

As of version10.1.0, there are 35 known challenge modes, with one upcoming new mode. Challenges usually occur once per week, with theMonthly Challenge occurring once per month. TheNew Season Challenge occurred at the start of each season untilSizzle Season 2024.

Foggy NotionThe stage is covered with fog that varies in strength throughout the match.
Duel of Dynamic DuosPlayers queue up as a team of two. Respawn time is shortened.
Art Battle for the AgesPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theroller orbrush weapon classes.
Extreme Jump BattlePlayers' jump height is significantly increased. Spawn armor is also increased. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Zip-to-It Zipcaster ChallengePlayers are only able to use weapons withZipcaster as its special weapon. Their special charges significantly faster in this mode and fills even if the player is not inking turf. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Work the AnglesPlayers are only able to use weapons withAngle Shooter as itssub weapon. The Angle Shooter's damage can defeat a player in one hit in return for a higher ink consumption. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Tournament Test Run (Japan)A practice run for future tournaments in the Japan region. Players can participate, regardless of whether they want to participate in future tournaments or not.
Swim It to Win ItPlayers' swim speed is significantly increased.Swim Speed Up gear abilities have no effect. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Tournament Qualifiers (Japan)A Challenge to qualify for a tournament in the Japan region. Players can participate, regardless of whether they want to participate in tournaments or not.
Inkjets for Everyone!Players are only able to use weapons withInkjet as its special weapon. Their special charges significantly faster in this mode and fills even if the player is not inking turf. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Modded Rainmaker Test-FireTheRainmaker is modified to shoot three balls of ink instead of the usual one. Additionally, the holder receives theTacticooler buff while they hold it. The Rainmaker's explosion timer lasts 30 seconds instead of 60.
Sheldon's Dress-Up ShowdownPlayers are given a random weapon and set ofamiibogear at the start of battle, regardless if they own any of them or not.
Barrel of SplatsPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within thesplatling class.
Reefslider RallyPlayers are only able to use weapons withReefslider as its special weapon. Their special charges significantly faster in this mode and fills even if the player is not inking turf. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Oh My GushGushers are spread around the stage.
Fastest BlastersPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theblaster class.
Towering Tower ControlThe Tower Control tower appears in a different form with more space for players.
Making It Rain...Here?TheRainmaker weapon appears in other modes than Rainmaker.
Fully ChargedPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within thecharger class.
Dualies at Ten PacesPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within thedualie class.
Curling HurlPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theCurling Bomb sub weapon. The size, contact damage and explosion size are greatly increased.
Full Stream AheadPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theroller orbrush weapon classes. The rollers' and brushes' movement speed when inking are greatly increased in this mode as well as their ink consumption.
Brella GoodPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within thebrella class.
Ultra Stamp RallyPlayers are only able to useweapons withUltra Stamp as itsspecial weapon. Their special charges significantly faster in this mode and fills even if the player is notinking turf. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Splat Bomb RushPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theSplat Bomb sub weapon. The ink consumption for Splat Bombs is cut in half.
Super Jump-a-thonPlayers are only able to equip weapons with theSquid Beakonsub weapon, and the players will be able toSuper Jump faster.
Bucket of Crab TanksPlayers are only able to useweapons withCrab Tank as itsspecial weapon. Sideways movement in crab form is increased. Only primary abilities are allowed in this mode.
Supreme SloshersPlayers are only allowed to use weapons within theslosher class.
Sheldon's Gear-Ability ShufflePlayers are given a random weapon andgear abilities at the start of battle.
Elite Challenge (Takoroka)A solo-only Challenge for the Top 1,000 players of a previousseason's X Rank Leaderboard in respective Challenge's mode.

Social media announcements

After a special Challenge has concluded, social media channels of three regions will generally announce the teams that placed first, second, and third with the highest Challenge Power for a certain timeslot. They will also announce the team with the middle-ranking among all teams as the Average Roe award. The announcement is accompanied by in-game screenshots of the teams posing on thestages that were available for the Challenge.

The special Challenges that have gotten these announcements areNew Season Challenge andMonthly Challenge. To be eligible for announcements on social media, participants have to join and play as a group of 3 to 4 players where half or more have set their Splatfest region to one that matches one of the social media channels.

A "3 Challenges in a row" Monthly Challenge[2] is a rerun of past Challenges with largely the samestages andmodes scheduled for three consecutive days. These reruns were previously solely announced on Japanese social media as a "Challenge Rush." While they are meant to be a way for players who missed these past Challenges to still experience them, anyone can participate in them.
