TheBurst Bomb is asub weapon in theSplatoon series. It is a weak bomb with a low ink cost that explodes on impact.

Appearance

Burst Bombs are sphericalballoons that change color to match the user's ink. They have white horizontal stripes going across them and a knot on top that leaves the end sticking up. The Burst Bombs used byAgent 3 inOcto Valley are a much darker version of Agent 3's ink color with a rim highlight matching the ink color. They have horizontal lights around them as opposed to white lines, and are tied with a clip rather than a knot. The lights change color depending on the upgrade level.

Burst Bombs are sphericalballoons filled withink that explode on contact with any surface, like a wall or floor. They use less ink thanSplat Bombs andSuction Bombs, and therefore cause less damage.

Octo Valley

Burst Bombs are one of three usablesub weapons inOcto Valley, unlocked withPower Eggs and selected viaD-Pad once available. They cannot be used inamiibo challenges, making Splat Bombs the only usable sub weapon for theHero Roller andHero Charger. They can also be used during thecredits.

    Burst Bombs return inSplatoon 3 and remain the same as they were in the previous games.

    Return of the Mammalians

    In the single playermode,Return of the Mammalians, they are an unlockable part of the Hero Gear, costing 4Sardinium and 5 Upgrade Points. They can also be found on a variety of weapons throughout themissions inAlterna.

    Side Order

    Splat Bombs appear inSide Order as the base sub weapon ofCallie'sPalette. They also appear as a purchasable sub weapon onVending-Machine CornerFloors, costing 500Membux by default.

    Trivia

    InSplatoon:

    • Burst Bombs have always consumed 40% of the player'sink tank inOcto Valley. This was carried over to multiplayer in Version2.7.0.
    • It is possible to throw three Burst Bombs without having to refillink by stacking one main and three subs ofInk Saver (Sub), and throw four with two mains and nine subs, plusLast-Ditch Effort.
      • Prior to Version 2.7.0 it was possible to throw four Burst Bombs, or even six if the player stacked enough Ink Saver (Sub). It is no longer possible to throw more than three Burst Bombs, whether or not the player stacks Ink Saver (Sub) on theirgear.
    • It is possible to use Burst Bombs during thecredits that uses a different color of ink from the regularshooter. These Burst Bombs appear to be the regular Burst Bomb used in multiplayer instead of the specialAgent 3 version.
    • In the single-player reveal trailer, Burst Bombs were initially able to instantly splat opponents within its radius, in comparison to taking two hits in the final game.

    InSplatoon 2:

    • It is possible to throw three Burst Bombs without having to refillink by stacking three mains and two subs of Ink Saver (Sub) (36ability points).
    • The Burst Bomb has the lowest ink consumption out of all sub weapons.

    InSplatoon 3:

    • The Burst Bombs of theHero Gear have the the same design as those used in Octo Valley, however the lines do not change color with upgrades and instead match the player's ink color, and the bombs no longer have a rim highlight effect.
    • Burst Bombs are the only Sub Weapon featured in an EnglishLINE sticker.
