if you guys dont know the compounds are: Glucose (the sugar found in your blood), Sucrose (table sugar), Vanillin (what is part of the vanilla bean), and the chemical that gives cinnamon its odor and taste
accidental diabetic/disability representation lets fucking gooooo???!!!!
Excellent game.
Normally I split my reviews into good/meh/bad but frankly, there is nothing that I would consider bad about this game and I have only very minor points that could belong in the "meh" category so this will be mostly me gushing about how much I love this.
First, the artstyle is gorgeous and really helps bring the characters to life. All three of which are really well written. It is genuinely impressive how much you conveyed with very little dialogue, not a single line feels wasted. The characters are also very interesting, I would love to see more of them even though I know that won't happen.
The little tidbits you can find in files, diaries etc also greatly enhance how we see the characters and let someone who pays attention even figure out the "twist".
In general, a lot of games that put you in the middle of the story are very bad at communicating what happened before we as players entered the story. This game does it in an excellent way.
As for the few "meh" points, there is only 4. One, a brightness setting is sorely needed. My computer makes any RPGM game slightly darker and I need to manually adjust my Screen. Then, achieving Ending B is a little obtuse. I believed only the final conversation would affect it, not the other two things. Also, I believe it is a little unclear who the person in the Lab is and it took me two playthroughs to understand that the person in the flashbacks was Dove. And lastly, the final part of Ending B is simply too short. I really wanted to explore the entire area with comments on the past and present.
So all in all, an excellent little game with some of the most efficient storytelling I have ever seen from a game. A lot of rightfully very popular story-based games can't hold a candle to this.
I LOVE THE VISUALS, THE MUSIC AND EVERYTHING SO MUCH!!! The music just blows my mind! It's just great! It suits the visuals so well and makes me feel so much emotion! I love how you used the fake protagonist trick at the beginning. And I love how creatively you reveal the characters through exploration of the locations! That these aren't just notes where the character just spills everything that's on his mind, but some little details that we can use to draw conclusions about the characters! And they suit the characters so well! And the contrast between mint and magnolia is great! And you also do a great job of revealing the characters through dialogue! It's really interesting to explore the locations to learn more about the characters! I love how magnolia, despite her actions, still cares about her child! And mint's drawings really look like children's drawings! What an unusual ending to the fairy tale 😳😳😳 AND THE ILLUSTRATIONS ARE DIVINE!!! And it's also really cool that you made an adult character not 20 years old, no 30, but 58 years old!! I often see that people are afraid to make characters over 18 years old... Thank you very much for this! It's obvious how well you thought out the game and the plot! SHE HAS A WIFE????🤯🤯🤯💥💥💥💥 AAAAAAAAAA OH MY GOD OH MY GOD AAAAAAAA💥💥💥💥💥 Oh... Her... She... They... 😭😭😭
Oh my God! I see how much work you put into this game! Thank you very much for your work! You are very inspiring!!!
That was very neat, i'm glad i tried it! The graphics and writing are both very nice (got ending A), and i can really relate to magnolia's frustration on research. Obviously gutting people is bad, but the regulations on anything reguarding bio are just absurd to the point of being counterproductive; in France we are legally obligated to euthanise rats after they participated in a certain number of studies, even if they were part of the control group with nothing done to them, and it's standard practice in unis to limit how many times peoples can participate as subjects in remunerated research per month "as it would be unethical for them to become reliant on it to live", because i guess it's just that much more ethical to let them starve to death.
This game was fantastic; I got ending A first and it made me tear up. Ending B was of course heartwrenching in its own way. The gameplay was really fun - I especially liked all the dialogue choices that let you flavor Magnolia as a parent, and how each one of those still kept her acerbic personality. All the little hints through the game leading up to the reveal for her motivations at the end were also absolutely excellent. I have a soft spot for divorce stories so that aspect of the plot really captured me as well.
Sotjenfjejs I loved it! I wish there was more of a community for this game, most of the tag on Tumblr is one dedicated soul... But that's all right, we can fill it on our own!
Symbiosis Game on Tumblr if anyone wants to find the tag!
