When the Internet History Sourcebooks Project began in 1999 Wikipedia was still foure years in the future (2001). Although it is easy to dunk on Wikipedia, it now is quite superb in presenting in a clear an consistent formatbasic information which isbacked up by references and citations. Wikipedia also contains a lot of wonderful maps and a large number of the high quality images of art, architecture, and so on that lecturers used to scramble to find for PowerPoints etc. It is never the place to end research but it can be a good place to begin.
