UPDATE: Level 2,Halo, is live! This iconic level sets the tone for the rest of the game. It introduces new enemies, vehicles and weaponry in a semi-open world format that the player can explore as they choose. Double down in the fight against the Covenant in the second installment ofHalo: Combat Devolvedfor the Game Boy Color.
On November 15, 2001, Bungie released its legendary first-person shooter for the original xBox. As a longtime fan of Halo: Combat Evolved, I 'm creating a faithful demake for the Game Boy Color usingGB Studio.
I'm sharing a demo with the first level, the Pillar of Autumn and have plans to continue adding levels to the project as time allows. Can you blast through the hoards of Covenant boarders and escape the ship alive? What lies ahead on the mysterious ring formation?
You can download the ROM or .pocket files to play on actual Nintendo hardware and the Analogue Pocket, or play the HTML version here in the browser. However, downloading either game file offers the best experience due to sound limitations with the in-browser emulator.

Fantastic project! One idea: have you thought of integrating melee when the Master Chief is in touch with or very close to an enemy? For instance, when the bounding boxes of MC and the enemy collide or are within a fixed proximity, you could activate a melee animation and inflict serious damage to the enemy, without needing a separate key for it.
I tried really hard to add melee. I had it working well with a double-tap of any d-pad direction, but the engine's limit of 5 unique projectiles per scene locked me out of doing that sadly. I may come back to it again and give it another go, but I'd really like to work on the next level and get some new content out there!
BTW, there is a cool update to the first two levels coming in a few days.
Thanks for your amazing efforts and looking forward for the release! My suggestion is that you don't make any different key combination. Simply, when any enemy is very close to Master Chief, you automatically activate melee instead of shooting and you show a different animation from shooting, while also inflicting a significant (fixed or proportional to their HP) amount of damage to enemies. Given the projectile limit, if you cannot show a melee animation, how about pushing the enemies a little bit back, while enabling their damage animation and sound, WITHOUT activating a fire animation? This way, you need no additional keys, no additional animation, and you imitate it by response of the enemies. If you can add a bump sound as well, you are set!
Is there a way to make two movesets. One accessed with a and b aa used now and two others that work by holding select or start. Example pressing b would shoot normally and a normally interacts, but now if you hold start, and press A now u it does a melee attack. If you hold select and press A now that Reloads same with b so u have access to 6 buttons now
Happy to try and help with either! While I don’t have formal musical training, I’ve been playing and recording music for 15+ years (guitars and synths, primarily heavier music). I can figure out just about any DAW and have been working in Reaper for a little over 2 years, but I’m most experienced using Logic Pro (10+ years). Looking at the docs athttps://www.gbstudio.dev/docs/assets/sound-effects/, it seems straightforward (which != ‘easy’) to implement sounds.
Hi this is SBplankton from SBplankton.
Halo on GBC are... Just gbc, but I have no outstanding toward these fine halo-fans and so am i, so i'll be able to this game describe opinions to You.
* The Music Main-menu begin the loop end over loop
* The energy Shield have No animation.
* There No weapon & ammo sign the top-left screen
* And The most at all, did nintendo, bungie (oh though No longer being with it). & 343 Industries really love this Gameboy or gameboy color.
My options, the gameplay feel like 18-20 min long and few of 10 mission on the level skip, cut and some easy, normal, hard and legendary.
If you don't believe me, ask him. (By him, I means myself). This long comment is just a Lucky day.
This is fantastic, so true to the original! I’d be happy to offer resources or support to see level 3! I love how you’ve basically thought of everything devolved to a gbc level. The mechanics in level too were amazing! I was genuinely blown away! Great work so far and thank you for your efforts and the time taken!
