Ursula K. Le Guin (b. Oct. 21, 1929, Berkeley, CA-d. Jan. 22, 2018, Portland, OR) is an author noted for fantasy, science fiction, and children's literature. Born in California, her father was an anthropologist and her mother was a writer; she was educated at Radcliffe and Columbia. Her diverse and respected short stories and novels are built on themes of balance and the environment, and often express feminist concerns.
