Thoughts on Forging in the Dark is a guide to making and modifying games using theForged in the Dark tabletop roleplaying game system. Originally written forBlades in the Dark by John Harper, theForged in the Dark engine has been adapted for use by Scum and Villainy,Band of Blades, and many indie games.
This is a guide for anyone interested in modifying aForged in the Dark game or writing a game using this engine. It goes through all of the core systems of the game, including playsheets, special abilities, crews, dice mechanics, action rolls, stress, resistance, etc. You'll learn what that system does, how the parts relate to each other, and what kinds of modifications or changes you might make.
Version 2 is now updated to include commentary onBlades in the Dark: Deep Cuts, a set of alternate rules written by the original designer.
