Yves Jean Bonnefoy[1] (June 24, 1923 – July 1, 2016) was aFrenchpoet,art critics andtranslator. Bonnefoy published many of translations into French, mainly poems ofWilliam Shakespeare. He was born inTours, France.
He was a professor at theCollège de France from 1981 to 1993. He was the author of several works on art,art history, and artists includingMiró andGiacometti.[2]The Encyclopædia Britannica presents him as ″perhaps the most important French poet of the latter half of the 20th century″.[3]
Bonnefoy died inParis on July 1, 2016, aged 93.
