Windsor Castle is a castle inWindsor, Berkshire,England. It is the largestinhabited castle in the world.Queen Elizabeth II of theUnited Kingdom lived there for part of the year. The castle was built in the 11th century byWilliam the Conqueror as amotte-and-bailey castle for the protection of England; it has been expanded and rebuilt many times. It was a military headquarters during theEnglish Civil War. In 1992, there was afire at the castle.

Windsor Castle is near theRiver Thames.
