Windows Home Server is a home server operating system created byMicrosoft. It was announced on January 7, 2007, at the Consumer Electronics Show byBill Gates. Its purpose is to provide households with multiple PCs a centralized and user-friendly solution for file sharing, automatic backups, and remote access to resources. It is built on the code ofMicrosoft Windows Server 2003 R2.
Windows Home Server was officially launched on July 16, 2007.
It was replaced byWindows Home Server 2011 in April 2011.
