Windows CE (also known officially asWindows Embedded Compact post version 6.0,[2][3] and sometimes abbreviatedWinCE) isMicrosoft'soperating system forembedded devices andminimal computers. Windows CE is a different operating system andkernel. It is not a trimmed-down version of desktopWindows. It is notWindows XP Embedded which isNT-based.
TheZune portablemedia player, as well as theWindows Mobile andWindows Phone 7smartphone platforms are based on Windows CE.
Windows Embedded Compact 2013 (version 8) is the final version of Windows CE. It had mainstream support until October 9, 2018, and extended support ended on October 10, 2023.[4]
