West Java (Indonesian:Jawa Barat) is aprovince of Indonesia. It is in the western part ofJava. Its capital city isBandung. It is the native home of theSundanese people.

West Java was one of the first provinces created after the independence of Indonesia. In 1966, the city ofJakarta was removed from the province. Jakarta became a special city. In 2000, the western part of the province was split. This becameBanten province.
