Woman weaving on a loom. The warp threads are white.
Weaving is the interlacing of two sets ofthreads at right angles to each other to formcloth. Weaving is usually done on aloom.
One set of threads is called thewarp. These threads are held taut and inparallel order on the loom byharnesses creating a space called theshed. Theweft thread is wound ontobobbins. In old-fashioned hand weaving the bobbins are held in ashuttle, which carries the weft thread through the shed. The warp threads are moved over and under the weft threads. Modern high speed weaving does not use a shuttle.
