TheWasp (Janet Van Dyne) is a fictional character and superheroine appearing in American comic books published byMarvel Comics, appearing as one of the main characters of theAvengers comics. Created by the lateStan Lee, the lateJack Kirby and the lateErnie Hart, the character first appeared inTales to Astonish #44 (June 1963).
The Wasp is the partner ofHank Pym (also known asAnt-Man), and later became his wife. She is usually depicted as having the ability to shrink to a height of several centimeters, fly by means of insectoid wings, and fire bioelectric energy blasts. She is a founding member of theAvengers as well as a longtime leader of the team, and was a member of theDefenders and the Lady Liberators.
The character has appeared in numerous media since her debut, such as in theMarvel Cinematic Universe, making a cameo appearance in the 2015 movieAnt-Man, and a full appearance in the 2018 movieAnt-Man and the Wasp, the 2019 movieAvengers: Endgame, and the 2023 movieAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, played byMichelle Pfeiffer andHayley Lovitt (younger). An original MCU Wasp, Janet's daughterHope van Dyne (named afterHope Pym), is played in each movie byEvangeline Lilly.
