TheWorld Meteorological Organization (WMO) is aninternational organization with a membership of 188 Member States and Territories. It was originally known as theInternational Meteorological Organization (IMO), which was founded in1873.

In1950, theUnited Nations created the WMO formeteorology (weather andclimate), operationalhydrology and relatedgeophysical sciences. Its headquarters are inGeneva,Switzerland. The current president isAlexander Bedritsky and the current Secretary-General isMichel Jarraudwho were both elected by the 14th World Meteorological Congress in2003.
