The bright star in the centre of the picture is UY Scuti.
The star has an estimatedmedianradius of 909 times that of theSun, or a diameter of 1.26trillionm (2 billionmi; 8.45AU); thus a volume 750 million times that of the Sun.[3]
It is at a distance of about 1,800parsecs (5,870light years) from Earth.[4] If placed at the center of theSolar system, itsphotosphere would engulf the inner planets of the Solar System (Mercury,Venus,Earth andMars), and would engulf all asteroids as well. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune would not be engulfed.
