Timila,thimila orpaani, (Malayalam: തിമില) is an hour-glass shapeddrum used inKerala, SouthIndia. Usually, the instrument is made ofwood. It is often used withreligious ceremonies. Sometimes four differentpercussion instruments (one of them the Timila), and atrumpet are grouped. Such a group is calledPanchavadyam.
