The Lancet

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lancet is a weeklypeer reviewed generalmedicaljournal.[1]

The journal was founded in 1823 byThomas Wakley, an Englishsurgeon. The word "lancet" has two meanings: asurgical knife, and anarchitectural term "lancet arch",[2] a window with a sharp pointed arch. This might suggest the "light of wisdom" or "to let in light".

The journal publishes original research articles, review articles ("seminars" and "reviews"), editorials, book reviews, correspondence, as well as news features and case reports. The Lancet has been owned byElsevier since 1991.[3] The journal has editorial offices inLondon,New York, andBeijing.
