Ted HughesOM, (17 August 1930 – 28 October 1998) was anEnglishpoet and writer ofchildren's stories. He was born in Mytholmroyd, West Riding ofYorkshire. He was married to theAmerican poetSylvia Plath from 1956 until hersuicide in 1963. From 1984 until his death, he was the BritishPoet Laureate. He died ofcolorectal cancer inLondon, aged 68. He wrote a book called The Iron Man which inspired the movieThe Iron Giant.
