Supersymmetry

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Super symmetry is ascientific theory that says that whenelementary particles (such asphotons, electrons, andquarks) were formed at the beginning of theuniverse, matching kinds oftheoretical "super particles" were also created.[1] If this theory is true, it would at least double the kinds of particles in the universe. If the universe has extradimensions (M-Theory by Edward Witten predicts up to 11) then there would also be more ways to havesymmetry and more kinds of super particles.

Manyscientists hope to prove super symmetry because it fills many gaps in theStandard Model of physics (includingdark matter) and would give support to the ideas ofstring theory.[2] However, experiments in theLarge Hadron Collider have not found evidence of super symmetry so far.

Super symmetry was the idea of Hironari Miyazawa (b. 1927).[3][4][5][6]
