Straightedge and compass construction, also known asruler-and-compass construction, is drawing oflengths,angles or shapes using only aruler andcompass.
Some things cannot be drawn this way. For example, there are only 32regular polygons with an uneven number ofsides which are known to be constructible. It has beenproven that asquare with the samearea as the area of acircle cannot be constructed. This is called "Squaring the circle".
