Stanislas "Stan" Wawrinka (English pronunciation: /wəˈrɪŋkə/,wə-RING-kə; born 28 March 1985 inLausanne) is aSwiss professionaltennis player. He is also aGermancitizen because his father is from Germany, though ofCzechancestry (hence theirsurname). His career-high singlesranking is Number 3 in the world. He reached this rank in January 2014. He considersclay his best surface and hisserve andvolley his best shot. He won thegold medal for Switzerland in themen's doubles event at the2008 Summer Olympics inBeijing, withRoger Federer. They beat theSwedish teamSimon Aspelin/Thomas Johansson in the final. They also won the 2008 Swiss Team of the Year Award.

Wawrinka has won three Grand Slam singles events: theAustralian Open in 2014, theFrench Open in 2015, and theUS Open in 2016.
