This article is about the family ofdiesel multiple unittrains in widespread service in theUnited Kingdom. For the diesel multiple units built byGoninan for use byV/Line inVictoria,Australia, seeSprinter (Victorian train).

TheSprinter is a family ofdiesel multiple unit trains in use on theUKrailway system. They were built in the 1980s and early 1990s byBREL,Metro Cammell andLeyland. All are based around aCummins engine withVoith hydraulic transmission. Sprinters can be seen operating in almost every part of the UK, from rural branch lines to commuter expresses into major cities.
