Shirley Knight Hopkins (July 5, 1936 – April 22, 2020) was anAmericanmovie,stage andtelevisionactress. Knight was born inGoessel, Kansas.
Knight was nominated twice for theAcademy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles inThe Dark at the Top of the Stairs andSweet Bird of Youth. She played Ruth in the TV showThirtysomething, Edith Niedelmeyer inColor of Night and Edie Danziger inDiabolique.
She also starred as Phyllis Van De Kamp inDesperate Housewives. Knight also played Mrs. Blart inPaul Blart: Mall Cop.
She won aGolden Globe, aTony and threeEmmy Awards.
Knight died of natural causes on April 22, 2020, at her daughter's home inSan Marcos, Texas. She was 83.[1]
