Seville (Spanish:Sevilla) is a city in the southern parts ofSpain. A river called theGuadalquivir River goes through Seville. The city of Seville is the capital of the Spanishautonomous communityAndalusia and of the province ofSevilla. People from Seville are calledSevillanos. With 686.000 people in the city and about 1.1 million in the urban area,Seville is the 4th largest city in Spain.
A very old story says that the city was started by the famous hero ofGreece, namedHercules. TheRomans when they came to Spain gave it theLatin name of Hispalis. Over time this changed to be spelled in English asSeville. TheMuslimArabs took the city when they invaded the country, and you can still see a lot of the buildings they built during their 800-year stay inSpain (711-1492).
In 1992, Seville was the place for the Expo 92. There is a beautiful bridge across the Guadalquivir River calledPuente del Alamillo. It was thought up by Santiago Calatrava a famous building expert.
University of Seville. This is the oldest university in Sevilla. It is located near the Centro, or center of the city, across the street from Plaza de España and Parque Maria Luisa.

Menéndez Pelayo International University-SevillaArchived 2012-05-01 at theWayback Machine. This school is not your typical university. Only students who are studying abroad with International Studies Abroad attend classes at this school. It is lcoated near the Centro and Alfalfa Barrio.
Theflag of Seville (Spanish:Bandera de Sevilla) is colored red with yellowcharacters. Theemblem has a diameter of three-quarters the width of the center. The ratio of the flag is 2:3.[1]
