Sears, Roebuck and Company, usually calledSears, is adepartment store chain with about 13 stores in theUnited States, 12 in the mainland United States and 1 inPuerto Rico.[1] The first store opened in 1906.[source?] It was the biggestretailer in the country untilWalmart had more sales in October 1989.[4]

Sears had to close all 140 of its stores inCanada in 2017.[5] Its 75 stores inMexico have been operated by Grupo Carso since 1997.[6]

Sears filed for bankruptcy on October 15, 2018.[7]

On June 3, 2019, the Sears assets were purchased byTransform Holdco.[8]
