SeaMonkey is afree andopen sourceInternetapplication suite, which uses theGeckorendering engine. It works on manyoperating systems. It is very useful, and includes ane-mail client, acalendar, aHTMLeditor, anIRC client, and aweb browser. It is made by the SeaMonkey Council, formerly by Mozilla Foundation.
On March 10, 2005 the Mozilla Foundation said that they will not develop theMozilla Application suite, including the Netscapeweb browser, becauseFirefox andThunderbird were more popular. The SeaMonkey Council renamed the projectSeaMonkey and continued its development.
The web browser of SeaMonkey contains a lot of features used in new web browsers like tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, e-mail, newsgroups, web editing software, spell checking, and an address book.
Optionally included in the SeaMonkey suite is anIRC chat application.
