St. Stephen.

Saint Stephen (Greek:Στέφανος/Stephanos) is known as the firstmartyr ofChristianity.

Therefore, he is also called theProtomartyr (Greek:Πρωτομάρτυρας/Protomartyras). He is venerated as asaint in theRoman Catholic Church, as well as in theEastern Orthodox Church. His feast day was historically kept onAugust 3. His name means 'laurel wreath' or 'crown' in Greek. His death is described in the Book ofActs. He was stoned to death forblasphemy and is remembered on the Feast of St. Stephen,December 26.
