Roger Scruton

Sir Roger Vernon ScrutonFBAFRSL (/ˈskrtən/; 27 February 1944 12 January 2020) was an Englishphilosopher and conservative writer. He heldtraditionalist conservative views.[1][2]

He was the editor from 1982 to 2001 ofThe Salisbury Review. Scruton wrote over 50 books on philosophy, art, music, politics, literature, culture, sexuality, and religion. His best known works wereThe Meaning of Conservatism (1980),Sexual Desire (1986),The Aesthetics of Music (1997), andHow to Be a Conservative (2014).

He was a regular contributor to the popular media, includingThe Times,The Spectator, and theNew Statesman.

Scruton was born inBuslingthorpe,Lincolnshire, England. He studied atJesus College, Cambridge. He lived inBrinkworth,Wiltshire, England.

Scruton was diagnosed with terminallung cancer in July 2019.[3] He died on 12 January 2020 from the disease at his home in Brinkworth at the age of 75.[4]
