Robert Golob (born 23 January 1967)[1] is a Slovenian businessman and politician who is thePrime Minister of Slovenia since 2022. Before becoming a politician, he was anenvironmental businessman and co-foundedGEN-I.

Early life

Golob went toUniversity of Ljubljana in 1994. After his studies, he was a post-doctoralFulbright scholar in theUnited States at theGeorgia Institute of Technology inAtlanta.[2][3]

Business career

In 2004, Golob co-founded an energy trading companyGEN-I,[4][5] where he was chairman until 2021.[6]

Political career

Between May 1999 and June 2000, Golob was the State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2002, he was elected to the City Council ofNova Gorica.

In January 2022, he ran for the president of a non-parliamentarygreen party[disambiguation needed] Z.Dej.[7] The party won the most votes and seats of any party in the 2022 parliamentary election in April.[8] Two months later on 1 June 2022, he became the Prime Minister.[9]
