Richard Preston Carlisle (/ˈkɑːrlaɪl/KAR-lyle; born October 27, 1959) is anAmericanbasketball coach and former player who is the head coach of theDallas Mavericks of theNational Basketball Association (NBA). He has also served as head coach of theIndiana Pacers andDetroit Pistons.[1][2][3][4] As a player, Carlisle played for theBoston Celtics,New York Knicks andNew Jersey Nets. He is also one of only 11 people to win an NBA championship both as a player and as a coach.[5]
