Clinton Richard DawkinsDSc,FRS,FRSL (bornNairobi, 26 March 1941) is anEnglish[24]biologist andwriter.[25] He is anemeritus Fellow ofNew College, Oxford,[26] and was theUniversity of Oxford's Simonyi Professor for Public Understanding of Science from 1995 until 2008.[27][better source needed]

Dawkins is anatheist, a vice president of the British Humanist Association, and a supporter of theBrights movement.[28] He is well known for his criticism ofcreationism andintelligent design. In his 2006 bookThe God Delusion, Dawkins contends that asupernaturalcreator almost certainly does not exist and that religiousfaith is adelusion, i.e. "a fixed falsebelief".[29]:5 As of January 2010, the English-language version had sold more than two million copies and had been translated into 31 languages.[30] Dawkins' ideas onevolution were heavily influenced byW.D.
