Ray Milland (3 January 1907 – 10 March 1986) was a Welsh-American actor and director.

Career

In the early years he achieved success in films such asBulldog Drummond Escapes (1937),Hotel Imperial (1939),Beau Geste (1939), andThe Major and the Minor (1942) withGinger Rogers. He was also inMinistry of Fear (1944), byFritz Lang. In theBilly Wilder filmThe Lost Weekend (1945), he played the role of Don Birnam, an alcoholic writer. That role earned him anAcademy Award as best actor.

In the 1950s he starred in theAlfred Hitchcock filmDial M for Murder (1954).

Another performance was as Oliver Barrett III (1970), in theArthur Hiller filmLove Story (1970), withAli MacGraw andRyan O'Neal.

Sci-fi movies

In early 1960, Ray Milland started much to play evil characters, in horror andsci-fi movies such asPanic in Year Zero! (1962), he also directed.Premature Burial (1962) andX: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963), byRoger Corman, inFrogs (1972), he played a man who is attacked by a plague of mutant frogs,The Thing with Two Heads (1972), he played adoctor who had a head transplant,Terror in the Wax Museum (1973).

Television

He had a longcareer in television, including his TV seriesMeet Mr. McNutley (1953–54), as Ray McNulty, and the Crime TV seriesMarkham (1959–60), as Roy Markham a formerlawyer, who works as adetective.

He was a special guest star inGeneral Electric Theater,Night Gallery,Columbo,Battlestar Galactica,Fantasy Island,The Love Boat,Hart to Hart, and many more.
