Ravensburg is atown inUpper Swabia in southernGermany. It is the capital of thedistrict of Ravensburg,Baden-Württemberg.

As of 2002, it has about 48,000 people.

Ravensburg was first mentioned in 1088. In the Middle Ages, it was anImperial Free City and an important trading centre. The "Great Ravensburg Trading Society" (Große Ravensburger Handelsgesellschaft) owned shops and trading companies all over Europe.

The historic town centre is still very much intact, including three town gates and over 10 towers of the medieval fortification.

The town's most popular festival is the "Rutenfest" in mid year.
