Rakesh Roshan (bornRakesh Roshan Lal Nagrath on 6 September 1949) is an Indian producer, director, screenwriter, editor, former actor inHindi films. He is the son of Indian music director Roshanlal Nagrath. He acted in 84 films throughout the 1970s and 1980s till 1989. As an actor, he was mostly known for his supporting roles in big-budget films starring Sanjeev Kumar andRajesh Khanna in the lead role. Later, he became famous for directing films with titles beginning with the letter "K" since 1987. This included the crime thrillerKaran Arjun (1995), the romanceKaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), the science fictionKoi... Mil Gaya (2003) and the superheroKrrish film series (2006—2013). The latter three films starred his sonHrithik Roshan. Roshan won theFilmfare Award for Best Director for directing the films;Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai andKoi... Mil Gaya. He is the father of actorHrithik Roshan.
In January 2019, Roshan was diagnosed with early-stagesquamous cell carcinoma of thethroat.[2]
