Print server

Aprint server, orprinter server, is acomputer ordevice that is connected to one or moreprinters and to anetwork. It acceptsprint jobs fromclient computers, then prints the jobs on the requested printer.

The term can refer to:

  1. Acomputer running any of the printingserverssoftware; implementing any of thenetwork printing protocols.
  2. Adedicateddevice that connects one or more printers to alocal area network (LAN). It typically has a single LAN connector, such as anRJ-45 socket or awireless connection,[1]and one or more physical ports (e.g.serial,parallel orUniversal Serial Bus (USB) ) to provide connections to printers. Such dedicated device convertsnetwork printing protocols from what was sent byclientcomputers to what the printers can understand.
