Pierre Mauroy (5 July 1928 – 7 June 2013) was aFrench Socialist Party politician who wasPrime Minister of France from 1981 to 1984 under PresidentFrançois Mitterrand. Mauroy also served as Mayor ofLille from 1973 to 2001. At the time of his death Mauroy was the emeritus mayor of the city ofLille.

Mauroy was born on 5 July 1928 inCartignies,Nord,France. He studied atÉcole Normale Nationale d'Apprentissage and at theInstitut d'études politiques de Paris. Mauroy was married to Gilberte Deboudt from 1951 until his death in 2013. They had one son. Mauroy died on 7 June 2013 inParis,France fromlung cancer, aged 84.[1]
