Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007) was aCanadianjazzpianist. Peterson won eightGrammy Awards and was put into theCanadian Music Hall of Fame in 1978.[1] His career lasted for more than 65 years.

He was born inMontreal, where his father taught him to play the piano.[2] While at high school he had lessons with aHungarian classical pianist, Paul de Marky.
