North–South divide

TheNorth–South divide is a term often used in thegeography ofsocio-economics. It describes a difference ineconomic development between the north and south of the world. The North is made up of mostlydeveloped countries in theNorthern Hemisphere – those ofEurope andNorth America. The South is made up of mostlydeveloping andundeveloped countries – those inAfrica,Latin America, andAsia. Many of them are in theSouthern Hemisphere. The North is home to four of the five permanent members of theUnited Nations Security Council and all members of theG8.
