Motorola was anAmericancompany that madecell phones and otherelectronics. The company was based inSchaumburg, Illinois, a small town just outside ofChicago,Illinois. After losing $4.3 billion from 2007 to 2009, Motorola was divided in two separate companies on January 4, 2011; Motorola Mobility andMotorola Solutions.[2][3]

They were listed in theNew York Stock Exchange asMOTArchived 2013-09-22 at theWayback Machine.[4]

The company began with the name Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928, and then later adopted the 'Motorola' name in 1947. They were the first developers of thewalkie-talkie inWorld War II.

On August 15, 2011,Google said that it would buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion.[5][6][7]

On October 30, 2014,Lenovo finalized its purchase of Motorola Mobility fromGoogle.[8][9]
