Metre per second is anSIunit of measurement of bothspeed andvelocity. It is defined by thedistance inmetresdivided by thetime inseconds. Its abbreviation ism/s orm·s-1. Inastronomy, the unit is sometimes used inkilometres per second (equivalent to 1000 metres per second).
