Gladys Louise Smith (April 8, 1892 – May 29, 1979), (known professionally asMary Pickford) was a Canadiansilent movieactress. She was born inToronto,Ontario,Canada. She won theAcademy Award for Best Actress for her role inCoquette. She was married to actorCharles "Buddy" Rogers.

Pickford was co-founder ofUnited Artists. She was one of the original 36 founders of theAcademy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She married silent movie starDouglas Fairbanks. They lived in aHollywood home called Pickfair.

She was called "America's Sweetheart" during thesilent film era, and is on the list of theAFI's 100 Years...100 Stars. She is put as the 24th-top female star from theClassical Hollywood Cinema era.[3][4][5]
