Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell (November 8, 1900 – August 16, 1949)[1] was anAmericannovelist.[2] She is best known for writingGone with the Wind.[2] She was born inAtlanta,Georgia.[2] Her mother's family wasIrishRoman Catholic. In Atlanta on 11 August 1949, Mitchell was hit by acar driven by adrunk driver. Fivedays later, she died of herinjuries.[2] The driver was convicted ofinvoluntary manslaughter.
